  • Hazards, including:
    • Major fires.
    • Hazardous material leaks or spills (with a threat to health and safety).

    • Sever weather.
    • Power outages.
  • Other events that pose an immediate threat to health or safety.

In an emergency, information will be shared in the following ways:

  • AggieAlert Email, App, and Text Message Notifications: Use the AggieAlert Portal to sign up for AggieAlert or to update your preferences.
  • Message Boards: Some classrooms on campus have message boards that show AggieAlert notifications.
  • NMSU Homepage: Brief information about emergencies will be posted on nmsu.edu and updated as needed.
  • When possible, AggieAlert notifications include a brief description of the emergency, the location of the emergency, any action to take (e.g., stay away from a dangerous area, shelter in place, follow evacuation plan), a suspect description if a crime has been committed, and a link to a map.

Yes.  AggieAlert is a cross-carrier service that sends to U.S. cellphone numbers.

At this time, only cellphones with U.S. numbers can be registered.

We encourage the community to download the Omnilert (AggieAlert) app from Google Play or the Apple App Store . While AggieAlert uses industry-standard SMS text messaging to send alerts to your phone, the app offers a more convenient way to manage and update your information. Please enable notifications to stay informed in real time.

Maybe.  If your current wireless service plan includes charges for incoming text messages, that rate will apply to AggieAlert text messages. Check with your phone carrier.

You can choose to unsubscribe from text messages in one of two ways:

  1. Reply to an AggieAlert text with STOP.
  2. Log in to the AggieAlert Portal and inactivate your cellphone number.

All active students (including DACC) and employees (including affiliates) with an “@nmsu.edu” email address will receive AggieAlert notifications via email. Additionally, those who have registered their phone number or downloaded the app will receive further alerts.

For location-specific notifications, only students and employees at the affected locations will receive alerts. To opt-in to location-specific notifications, users can log in to the AggieAlert Portal , navigate to "Groups," and subscribe to their preferred locations.

Family and loved ones of NMSU students are encouraged to register for AggieAlert text message and email notifications by navigating to the AggieAlert Portal , selecting “Sign Up” on the top right of the screen, and following the prompts.

The University partners with Omnilert LLC to provide emergency communications; however, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted service. In rare cases, system errors, delays or maintenance may cause service disruptions. For critical or life-threatening incidents, the University collaborates with local and state agencies to ensure alternative communication methods are available.

AggieAlert accounts are set to never expire. However, once a student graduates or is no longer enrolled, their university email address is automatically removed from the email notification list. Students who have graduated or are no longer enrolled will also be automatically removed from text message notifications on a quarterly basis (every January, April, July, and October).

When an employee leaves the University or retires, or affiliate is no longer with the University, their university email address is automatically removed from the email notification list and their cellphone number is automatically removed from text message notifications. Exception: Retirees with emeritus or emerita status will continue receiving AggieAlert notifications via email and text message.

Former students, employees and affiliates can register for AggieAlert notifications as Family and Friends through the Sign Up for AggieAlert  page.
